Missed lead cost calculator for real estate
Enter your own numbers to see roughly how much commission is at stake each month when inbound leads get no reply, or a reply after more than an hour. The result is an illustrative range with the formula shown, not a forecast.
Your illustrative estimate
- Leads with no reply or a late one, per month
- 50
- Deals at stake per month
- 0.8 to 1.5
- Commission at stake per month
- $6,000 to $12,000
- Commission at stake per year
- $72,000 to $144,000
About 50 leads a month get no reply or a late one. At your close rate that is 0.8 to 1.5 deals a month, or $6,000 to $12,000 in commission a month ($72,000 to $144,000 a year). Illustrative estimate, not a forecast.
Formula: leads per month × share with no reply or a late one × close rate × average commission × 50% to 100%. Gross commission at stake; no costs are subtracted.
Method
- Leads at stake per month = new inbound leads per month × the share that get no reply, or a reply after more than an hour.
- Deals at stake per month = leads at stake × your close rate on leads you answer quickly.
- Commission at stake per month = deals at stake × your average commission per closed deal. Per year = per month × 12.
- The range: the low end assumes a lead that got no reply or a late one would have closed at half your usual close rate; the high end assumes your full close rate.
Assumptions and limits
- The example inputs (200 leads, 25%, 3%, $8,000) are examples only, not benchmarks. Replace each with your own number from your CRM.
- The 50% to 100% range is an assumption for illustration. Some late leads still close; some would not have closed even with a fast reply.
- The result is gross commission income at stake. It does not subtract splits, fees, ad spend or the cost of any tool, and it is not a forecast or a guarantee.
- Leads are counted once, whatever the source. Leads who asked not to be contacted are not leads at stake.
What the research says about unanswered leads
Industry research, not Swiftleads AI customer results. Use it to sanity-check your own share of leads with no reply or a late one:
- In 100+ secret shops of brokerage websites during weekday business hours, 47% of online property inquiries got no response; the median reply took 39 minutes (DelPrete, 2024).
- Pied Piper's 2026 study of 2,198 inquiries to offices of 21 large brands found 68% of website inquiries got no response within 24 hours, and just 10% heard from an agent within an hour (Florida Realtors, 2026).
- A 2013 WAV Group study found 48% of buyer inquiries were never responded to, and the average response took 917 minutes.
- Speed changes the odds: firms that tried to contact a lead within an hour were nearly seven times as likely to qualify it as those that waited longer (HBR, 2011). Leads called within 60 seconds converted 391% above average (Velocify, formerly Leads360).

Frequently asked questions
How much do missed real estate leads cost?
It depends on your lead volume, how many leads go unanswered or wait, your close rate and your commission. This calculator multiplies those inputs and shows a range: the low end assumes a missed lead would have closed at half your usual rate, the high end at your full rate. It is an illustrative estimate, not a forecast.
How many real estate leads go unanswered?
Studies differ by method and year. A 2024 secret-shopper study of brokerage websites found 47% of online property inquiries got no response, and Pied Piper's 2026 study found 68% of website inquiries got no response within 24 hours. Measure your own share from your CRM before you rely on either.
Is this estimate a Swiftleads AI result?
No. The inputs are yours and the research cited is industry research, not Swiftleads AI customer results. The estimate is gross commission at stake; it does not subtract any cost, including the cost of any tool.
